Sewer Cleanout Installation & Repair

A sewer cleanout is a capped pipe that gives a plumber a straight shot into your main sewer line. When the line backs up, it’s how we get in to clear it, and opening the cap can let sewage spill outside instead of coming up your basement floor drain.

A lot of older North Shore homes were built without an outdoor cleanout, or have one that’s been buried under landscaping, paved over, or cracked by a lawn mower. Without good access, clearing your sewer takes longer, costs more, and makes a bigger mess inside the house.

When You Need Cleanout Work

  • Your home has no outdoor cleanout.
  • The cap is cracked, missing, or stuck.
  • The cleanout is buried and nobody can find it.
  • You’ve had more than one sewer backup.
  • Roots or a damaged clay line keep clogging the main.

What We Do

We locate your sewer line, dig down to it, and install a properly sized cleanout with a cap at ground level. If you already have one that’s damaged, we replace the riser and cap. Afterward, your yard is backfilled and we show you where the cleanout is so you can find it in an emergency.

Sewer Cleanout FAQs

What does a sewer cleanout do?

It’s an access point to your main sewer line. It lets us clear clogs and run a camera without pulling a toilet or working through your basement.

Where is my sewer cleanout?

Usually outside near the foundation, on the side of the house closest to the street. In older homes it may be in the basement floor or wall, or there may not be one at all.

Do I need an outdoor cleanout if I have one in the basement?

It’s a good idea. During a backup, an outdoor cleanout lets sewage relieve outside instead of in your basement, and it gives better access to the line running to the street.

Can a cleanout be added to an older home?

Yes. It’s a smart upgrade for older North Shore homes, especially ones with clay sewer lines that need regular rodding.
